How?
How can you be media literate?
We have already noted some of the important factors to consider when regarding information on the internet, but I will list them here again for a refresher.
The most important factors to consider are:
1. Who is the author?
2. What is the goal of the writing?
3. Where is the information coming from?
4. Is this a trusted source?
Whenever you hear about something on the internet, pause and consider these things. If it comes from somewhere where you don't have some of this information, do a quick google search on it, and apply these steps there. Additionally, it is important to consult multiple sources, and see if the information that is coming from them is matching up with each other. If multiple trusted sources are saying the same things, there is a significantly higher likelihood that the information coming from them is good and accurate. Once you add these steps into your information consumption online, you will be much less likely to fall victim to fake news on the internet.
